The client.

The University of Glasgow, a world top 100 university and a member of the prestigious Russel Group of leading UK research universities, was looking for a smart way to provide storage for students and staff across their new campus buildings.

The campus was designed for the tech-savvy students, so the solution needed to meet the demands in how the younger generations navigate and operate in the world today.  

The project.

With around 2,500 people per building, we installed Simplicity smart lockers for both students and staff to use. These include the renowned John Smith, Arc and Adam Smith buildings.

Lockers were assigned to specific user groups, with students gaining the majority of around 75% of campus lockers. Using ReleezMe, our smart storage software powered by Vecos, users are able to access their lockers via their ID card or a mobile app.

To prevent locker kidnapping, users are only able to book lookers by the day, with push notifications sent as a reminder to remove their belongings before each locker is automatically released ready for booking at the end of the day.

A central management platform enables university management to review locker capacity data in real-time and manage lockers where necessary.

Lockers were installed in a variety of colours and finishes to complement the aesthetics of the space. We also installed cupboards with coat rails and bicycle lockers.

The results.

Each year, around 25% of the universities students are new to campus and as part of their welcome undergo onboarding that includes smart locker functionality to promote their use.

Overall, smart storage has been extremely well received by all students and staff, providing easy-access and functional storage for their books, laptops and personal belongings.
